What Is The Best Cbd Oil For Cats?

If you want to know what is the best CBD oil for cats you’ve come to the right place. In this post you’ll discover some of the benefits of CBD and if it can really help ease pain. Plus, is it safe and what dosage should you give?

You’ll learn what you need to look for when choosing CBD oil for your cat and the best type of formulas. In addition, how often you should give your cat CBD and much more.

CBD for pets can come in several forms including drops, chews and food toppers. Every cat is different and you may find one CBD product works better than another.

Can CBD really benefit your cat?

Where is no real proof to suggest CBD is of any benefit to cats, studies have shown it can help reduce arthritic pain in dogs. However, many cat parents report seeing positive results.

All animals have endocannabinoid systems including humans. This means your cat has CBD receptors. It’s believed CBD doesn’t attach itself to receptors but has some influence on it.

CBD originates from hemp which has less psychotic THC. CBD oils for pets generally have low amounts of THC yet higher amounts of CBD. This compound is believed to help reduce pain as well as provide many health benefits.

Interestingly, cats share many similarities to us including endocannabinoid systems. This indicates similar results may be experienced by cats given CBD

This could include a decrease in pain and inflammation as well as improved mood and reduced anxiety. If your cat seems fearful of certain situations it may be worth considering CBD.

One notable benefit of CBD is it’s ability to reduce the number of electrical disturbances in the brain. This means it may help suppress seizures. While this is a rarity in cats, it can be suffered by dogs.

The following CBD products are based on my own opinions and customer ratings. I may make a small commission on any sales made but this in no way reflects the price you pay.

Petly is a company producing CBD solely for pets. Based in California, they use 100% organic hemp. This means that no harmful chemicals are used in making their products.

As you want the best for your cat, this is something you need to consider. In addition to CBD, hemp also contains flavonoids which are packed with antioxidants.

These help boost the immune system and fight off free radicals. As cats age they’re more prone to disease which may in part be a result of the build up of free radicals in the body.

Only food grade ethanol is used in the extraction process. Ethanol is chemical that’s required to break down and extract cannabinoids. Using a food grade variety makes the CBD products even safer for pets.

THC is the compound found in hemp that produces the “high.” To ensure all traces are removed, Petly use a proprietary technology. After all, you don’t want your cat floating about in a state of ecstasy!!

To ensure quality and safety all production runs are lab tested. This should give you peace of mind when buying one of their products.

You have a choice of either CBD oil or food toppers. Both are available for cats and dogs.

Are there any side effects?

As Petly CBD products are made from natural organic ingredients it’s highly unlikely your cat will suffer any adverse effects. However, that being said, it’s possible for pets to have allergies just like us!

The only effect you may notice is drowsiness. This is fine as long as your cat doesn’t drive or operate heavy machinery!

Seriously though, if you do notice any adverse reactions to any supplement including CBD consult your vet as soon as possible.

Pets Brite CBD oil

Although Pets Brite CBD oil is designed for dogs I’ve included it here as it may be ok to give to your cat. I could find nothing to suggest otherwise, but I’d advise asking your vet first.

You get a choice of bacon, peanut, or chicken flavor, and all ingredients are 100% natural.

The only thing to bear in mind is dosage. Depending on your cat’s weight and size you’d probably need to reduce the suggested amount for dogs.

I would also suggest choosing the chicken flavor as this would be more appealing to feline tastes. You could always choose bacon or peanut butter flavored drops for your dog:)

Key features

  • THC free
  • Graduated dropper for easy measuring
  • Available in different strengths
  • Coconut MCT oil
  • Third party lab tested
  • Scannable QR code lab results

Chill Paws Pet CBD For Cats

chill paws cbd oil for cats

Chill Paws CBD oil for cats is full spectrum. This means your cat benefits from a stronger effect. As the oil comes in a bottle with dropper this makes it easy to measure and administer.

You’re advised to start with a half dropper first. This is a good idea as all cats respond differently to CBD. While your cat may benefit from a full dose, others may respond to it quicker and only need half the amount.

In addition, the dosage you may end up needing depends on your cat’s health, and size. A large breed cat may need a higher amount than an an average size moggy.

Actually, cats have far fewer cannabinoid receptors than dogs, so you may find you’ll need to use a little more to get best results. You needn’t worry about overdosing though as CBD oil is very safe.

One of the good things about CBD oil is it takes effect very fast. In fact, you can expect effects within 45-90 minutes. Always monitor your cat though.

Chill paws contains very low levels of THC at just 3%. This is definitely not enough to make your cat high! Although she may seem a bit drowsy which is a normal side effect.

It’s recommended you start with one or two doses a day to see how your cat responds. In fact, I’d suggest starting with just one. You can always increase dosage if needed.
Effects tend to last anywhere from 4-6 hours so if your cat has any chronic aches or pains you may decide 2 doses a day may work best.

As Chill Paws contains only full spectrum CBD oil and MCT oil your cat won’t be exposed to any harmful toxins. In fact, they advertise as only using human grade ingredients. This means people can use it as well!

Remember, never use CBD in place of conventional medicine. It’s not made with the intention of curing or preventing disease. If your cat or dog is unwell always seek veterinary advice. NEVER use CBD on your cat if she’s on medication without consulting your vet first.

Key features

  • 3rd party lab tested
  • 100% hemp derived CBD
  • Full spectrum CBD oil
  • MCT Oil
  • FDA approved
  • 30 day refund policy
  • Supports animal shelters

What CBD product will you choose for your cat?

I hope this post has helped you decide which is the best CBD oil for your cat. The brands I’ve shared here are those I personally would use for my own cat.

This is because they all use organically grown hemp and have zero or very low levels of THC. In addition, they’re all third party lab tested.

Many CBD products for pets are low grade with some containing potentially harmful ingredients. Always check the label before buying just to make sure it’s safe.

While there’s never yet been any scientific studies on the use of CBD on cats, many owners report seeing some benefits. Of course you can’t ask your cat if she’s feeling better, but things like an increase in appetite or energy are good signs.

Whether your cat has arthritis, gets stressed, or you just want to give CBD as a supplement I hope this post has answered some of your questions

  1. Hi Kathy,
Very interesting article. I had never heard of giving a pet CBD oil. The whole concept is rather new to me. Our current cat is young (4-5 years) and healthy so I don’t believe she requires any type of pain relief. However, our 2 older might have benefited had I known about it sooner. One was 18 and had arthritis, I am sure it would have helped her. The other was an 8-year-old male who had kidney disease, I am not sure if anything could have helped him. Unfortunately, we no longer have either of those cats as they have both crossed that rainbow bridge. I will keep it in mind as our current kitty ages. Thank you for sharing this information.

    • Hi Deborah, thank you for your comment:) Yes, I agree, your younger cat wouldn’t have much benefit from CBD oil. It’s also hard to say if it would have helped your other cat. There’s no real scientific proof, and every cat responds differently. Glad you enjoyed this post and thanks for stopping by:)

  2. I always liked to learn new things & this one really caught my attention. I never thought that dogs and cats can use CBD oil. Good to know now I have plenty of dogs one of them is a pitbull & he always has pain in his right foot. I’m Going to try Cornbread to see if it can help him.

    Thanks for your amazing article,

    • Hi Venche, thank you for your comment and glad you enjoyed this post:) I hope you find Cornbread CBD oil helps your pitbull. If he doesn’t improve it may be a good idea to have him checked over by a vet. Thanks for stopping by:)

  3. Our cats don’t operate any heavy machinery so I believe a bit of drowsiness after taking CBD oil will not make them any problems. After all, all they do is sleep all day long so I’m sure taking CBD oil will have no side effect at all LOL. I just wanted to reach out and say thanks for sharing this post. There are too many choices on the market these days, which makes it hard to pick the best product for our pets. Your post here has helped a lot to gather more information and find the best product for us. Thanks again and keep up the good work!
