What Is The Best Safe Pain Relief For Cats?

There may be many reasons why you’re looking for safe pain relief for cats. Maybe your cat suffers from a chronic condition, or is recovering from surgery.

Whatever the reason, I hope to provide answers you’re searching for. The following suggestions are not meant as medical advice, but just my own research or opunions,

You Must always consult your vet before using any complimentary therapy. If your cat is in pain, veterinary advice is the first port of call before deciding on alternative solutions.

However tempting it may be, NEVER give your cat painkillers designed for humans. Your cat’s body works very differently to yours.

While asprin can ease your headache, it could do your cat severe harm. No matter how much pain your feline friend is in, only ever give medication prescribed by a vet.

The following may provide very safe pain relief for cats. However, although safe, there’s no guarantee they’ll work for your cat.

How Can You Tell If Your Cat Is In Pain?

safe pain relief for cats-how to tell if your cat is in pain

As I’ve said so many times, cats are masters at hiding pain. This is survival instinct as a weak cat is easy prey.

Obviously, broken or damaged limbs will cause severe pain and require urgent veterinary treatment. Many aches and pains from chronic conditions though may not be so obvious.

In addition to hiding pain, cats communicate differently to humans. While you may moan about a sore back, or pulled muscle, your cat can’t talk.

She can’t tell you how she feels so it’s up to you to spot the signs. These could be anything from constant meowing, howling, loss of appetite, limping, to sleeping more than usual.

If you notice a change in your cat’s behavior look for any obvious signs such as lumps or bumps. Limping could indicate arthritic pain, or damaged paw pad.

Meowing more than usual and howling could indicate pain or discomfort from anywhere in the body. A trip to the vet would rule out anything serious.

CBD Oil As Safe Pain Relief For Cats

I’m sure you’ve heard about the benefits of CBD oil, and even tried it yourself. However, is it an effective pain relief for cats?

Though non-psychoactive, it’s believed CBD oil may help ease painful joints in cats. In addition, it’s thought to give a sense of wellbeing and increase appetite.

The good thing about CBD is it’s non-addictive and won’t make your cat feel high. This is because it’s derived from the hemp plant which contains virtually no THC.

Always get CBD specifically for cats and dogs. Although the grade may be the same, CBD for pets will have a lower concentration.

If you’re unsure my advice would be to ask your vet’s advice first. This is because it may not be suitable for your cat’s needs.

Asissi Loop

Assisi loops or PEMF offer a safe and effective treatment to help reduce pain and swelling. This safe pain relief for cats and dogs works using a series of magnetic pulses.

These pulses are targeted onto affected areas and completely painless. In fact, most cats tolerate and even enjoy assisi loop treatments.

Also, as your cat won’t need veterinary visits she’ll be calmer and happier. PEMF not only helps relieve pain but treats the underlying cause as well.

It’s designed to boost the body’s own anti-inflammatory response, and speed up healing. This alternative pain relief has even been shown to produce bone regeneration in humans.

Increased blood flow and regeneration of cells can help a variety of health problems that cause pain. These may include osteoarthritis, degenerative joint disease and wounds.

In addition, you could also use assisi loop to ease post surgery pain.

Glucosamine

Glucosamine has shown to be effective in treating joint pain. It’s actually already present in the body and helps keep your joints supple.

You’ll be interested to hear that all mammals includes cats and dogs have glucosamine. However, as aging occurs your cat’s supply of this compound starts to dwindle.

By definition glucosamine is a building block for repairing cartilage. It’s also found in bone tissue, and helps your feline friend stay supple.

Glucosamine provides safe pain relief for cats and can be given in supplement form. However, always buy glucosamine designed for cats.

Look for supplements containing a mix of glucosamine, msm, and chondroitin. All these ingredients combined may offer your cat some relief from painful joints.

Omega 3 Fish Oil

Omega 3 is an essential fatty acid well known for its health benefits. If your cat suffers from arthritic joint pain you may find supplementing her diet with fish oil helps.

Apart from easing joint pain it’s also believed to support heart health, and improve dry skin.

In fact I’ve been giving my cat salmon fish oil for the past several months. It’s very easy to add to your cat’s food and mine seems to enjoy the taste:)

Final Thoughts

Although any one of these safe pain relief products may help your cat, you should consult your vet if you’re unsure. Sometimes medication is the best solution.

  1. I’ve heard of using CBD for pets as a stress and pain reliever. I didn’t know that there were specific batches for them. I guess it makes sense because of the difference in body weight.
Just to be safe, I think the best idea is always to talk to a veterinary surgeon if we think our pets are in any sort of pain.

    Thanks for sharing.

    • Hi Andrew, yes, body weight is a big part of it. CBD for pets is the same high quality as it is for humans. The only difference is the concentration. I agree, it’s always best to consult with a veterinarian first, just to be on the safe side. Thank you for your input and for stopping by:)
