What Are The Best Cat Trees For Kittens?

If you have a new kitty you may be wondering what are the best cat trees for kittens. Having somewhere for your little fur baby to explore and play is essential for her development.

In this post you’ll discover what you need to look for when buying a cat tree for for your kitten. You may also be asking are cat trees safe for kittens?

As long as your kitten is old enough to walk around with good coordination she should be fine. This is usually from around 5 weeks old but can vary.

Start Small!

You need to be cautious though, and start with a small structure. This is because until your kitten is at least 4 months old there’s a danger she could fall.

Your little kitten is very delicate with low body mass. A fall could easily hurt her and even scare her from using the cat tree.

I would suggest you look for a cat tree that’s no more than about 2ft tall to start with. Then once she’s over 4 months old you could introduce a taller structure.

Every cat is different just like children. If you feel your kitten is ok with climbing a taller cat tree then give it a go.

Keep a close eye on her for a while until you feel confident she’s ok. Making sure the cat tree is sturdy and won’t tip will help give peace of mind.

Best Cat Trees For A Young Kitten.

The following cat trees are the perfect size for a young kitten under 4 months old. Bear in mind though she won’t stay this small, so you may still want to buy a taller tree when she’s older.

Any information I share is from research or my own opinion. In addition, I may make a small commission on any sales which in no way affects the price you pay.

Always supervise young kittens, especially when they start climbing. Remember, they’re just like toddlars and prone to the odd tumble!

Once your kitten has developed good coordination she’ll have no problem scaling taller structures. This is usually around 4 months, but can happen earlier.

Many pet owners ask why do cats like cat trees?. The main reason is it gives a private space to rest and play.

All cats need their own space just like humans. Although they’re not aloof as many still believe, they need some alone time.

  1. Hi Kathy! Omg those kittens are so sweet! 🙂

We had a cat who passed away three years ago. We threw the old cat tree away back then same time. Now we are planning to have a new kitten, a friend for our two year Stella dog.

That Cat Tree for Indoor Cat, 36in Cat Tower looks so amazing. Maybe it will be an over kill for just one kitten? But only the best for our babies… 🙂

    • Hi Markus, nice to hear you’re getting a kitten, and I’m sure your dog will soon make friends! Yes, the 36 inch cat tower will be ideal, even for one kitten. If you decide to get it, make sure your kitten is about 4 months old, or has good coordination. Definitely only the best for our fur babies!

  2. So many people think cats are aloof. Actually so did I before I owned one. I was always a dog person! But now that I have two cats I see their personalities are different from dogs but they are not aloof.
I love the idea of providing a cat tree for them to climb on. Since my two cats are older, I would probably choose the 41 inch tree. It looks like it would be fun and cozy for them. Right now my house is full of “stuff” from the holidays. Perhaps when I tidy up somewhat, I will consider purchasing one for my fur babies. Thanks for the post and for the precautions.

    • Hi Nina, yes, most cats are anything but aloof! Mine sticks by me all day and follows me everywhere! Glad you like the 41 inch cat tree as it’s my favourite as well. I think it would be perfect for your cats as they’d have plenty of places to rest and play. The hammock may be a bit small though if your cats are older.

  3. Boy, these modern cats and kittens are spoilt with so many luxurious toys to play with.
I remember a time when we use to shoo our cats outside to play in the trees (along with us.)
However, I know there are fewer trees available in large cities these days, and many cats even live high up in apartment buildings, so these cat trees are a great idea.
I’ll share this post with someone I know who could do with one of these trees 🙂

    • Hi Andrew, thanks for stopping by again. Yes, it remember those days as well:) We had three cats when I was growing up, and a large garden with trees for them to climb. Nowadays, cat owners are spoilt for choice, and there are certainly plenty of cat trees to suit all décor and size of home. Thank you for sharing this post and hope your friend finds it useful:)
